‘Playing out’ in Britain is a scheduled, organized outdoor free play out on the street in family neighborhoods. On our street in Worthing, Sussex, the first playing out day was held this past Sunday from 3 to 5pm. The road was blocked off right in front of our house! It was a fab day and a wonderful addition to our community. It was a chance for the kids to play out in the middle of the street without worrying about cars, it was an opportunity for neighbors to get to know one another in a casual, fun way. Nick, the kids and I thoroughly enjoyed it and we got to know some more people who live on our street which was really lovely. Jonah had a ball with the younger ones and Sam found a friend from school who lives just down the road to play with. I had no idea he even had a friend from school who lives just seconds from our front door! How wonderful. The BBC came and filmed for The One Show which I will post a link to once it’s been aired. Thanks to two of our neighbors who organized the event and invited everyone. It was truly a success and we are looking forward to the next one.
