My daughter, aged eleven, and I did something brand new yesterday. We did an online live cooking course put on by an American couple living and running their own Italian farm house inn and cooking holiday business in Le Marche, Italy. Ashley and Jason Bartner are expats in business who are featured in my book Inspiring Global Entrepreneurs. So, inspired by a friend’s blog post on teaching and learning (Straightforward Coaching by Claire Bradford) I wanted to learn something new to expand my mind and keep my life, and my family’s life, interesting and exciting.

Ashley and Jason put on online live cooking classes as part of their business to help and encourage people all over the world to get to know Italian culture and food. People flock to La Tavola Marche (Farm, Inn & Cooking School) for holidays and cooking courses and these online courses are fantastic for those of us who haven’t yet been and want a taste of what’s in store for their holiday at La Tavola Marche. They are also great online cooking courses as stand alone cooking courses.

Anna Grace and I found the video to be friendly, informative, fun (I loved hearing Ashley’s giggling and encouraging laughter in the background!) and completely non intimidating and unpretentious. Very easy to follow and since we were doing the recording after the live session, we still got to hear all the questions that came in and hear the answers. Someone asked if basil could be added in addition to the arugula (which is rocket in the UK) to which Jason replied yes. So Anna Grace and I decided we’d like to do that too.

I think we did OK (see photos below) and I definitely think Anna Grace is a better cook and baker than I am. We enjoyed eating a new meal cooked by ourselves with fresh ingredients in a way I’d never cooked before. I have to point out that I was considering adding some cream or creme fraiche to the pasta but Anna Grace stopped me saying that she didn’t think it needed it. She was SO right! Delicious as is! I also think it’s fantastic that she can do a cooking course straight from Italy (a country I love and talk about to her all the time) by Americans (who love Italy) together with her American mother in their British house in England.

Our only regret is that we couldn’t be in Italy eating at La Tavola Marche with Ashley and Jason. No wonder their business is so successful! This is a winning combination of unique Italian holiday and cooking courses where you learn first hand about Italian culture by open and friendly Americans who are passionate about Italy and their business and their ability to embrace technology in order to offer their services on a global scale. Their personable manner makes you feel that they are there in your kitchen with you. If you do the live class you can ask them questions directly. Their team work and love for what they do really shows through which makes the cooking course feel authentic and very Italian (with an American twist). These online live cooking classes are only $5 each so please visit their website and see when the next one is. And, if you’re looking for a holiday this summer or any time in the future, think of La Tavola Marche and get in touch with Ashley and Jason. You will LOVE them.
