Khan Academy
My friend and graphic designer, Wendy Barratt, sent me a link the other day which has opened up something amazing for us, particularly for my 11 year old son Sam. Some of you may know of this already but I hadn’t come across it before. I am always on the look out for learning tools for my children and this is by far the best thing I’ve seen that is not part of what they do at school. My son likes it (hooray!) and he’s now doing additional math lessons after school. So for parents out there who are looking for some great learning tools for their kids (or for themselves), take a look at Khan Academy. It’s so cool! I’ve found a whole bunch of lessons on pre algebra and a few interesting things, like working out the unemployment rate in the USA.
It’s going to take us a while to work out exactly what we can do but I have seen that you can get badges for completing courses and you can also track your achievement. My son says that at first he sometimes thinks the math lessons are easy but then when he does the tests at the end, it really makes him work hard. He can go back and do the lessons as many times as he wants. It’s fantastic.
