My Expat Bucket List – Blog Link Up
I’m joining in this Expat Bloggers Link Up: My Expat Bucket List by Amanda van Mulligen. Thanks again Amanda for a brilliant idea for a blog link up!
Here is my expat bucket list: What things do I still want to see, do or experience in the country that I currently call home?
In no particular order.
1. Go to Stonehenge – I can’t believe I haven’t been yet.
2. Go back to Nottingham to visit our friends there and to remind Sam and Anna Grace of their birthplace and their stomping ground when they were Jonah’s age.
3. Visit Scotland – this is where my great grandfather on my mother’s side was from and I’ve always wanted to visit his birthplace. Plus, I’ve heard so many amazing things about Scotland.
4. Get my British passport. Putting it on here so that I don’t try to back out!
5. Visit Ireland – especially with my daughter who loves the idea of Ireland and who does a brilliant Irish accent.
6. Master the art of baking the perfect Victoria sponge. I’d never eaten this before I came to England and now it is one of my favorite cakes but one I’m not very good at baking.
7. Go back to Cornwall. Been only once and loved it. Beautiful.
8. Visit Amsterdam again and meet up with all the friends I made there.
9. Go for a holiday in Tuscany. Re-visit Cortona to show my husband and children where I studied art while at University. Cortona was my first real experience of life outside America and was the beginning of my life as an expat.
10. Go to Tanzania to visit the school I provide ongoing support to through The Lunch Project.
11. Further develop my company White Ochre Design and open my own design studio (outside of my house) either here in the town where we live or elsewhere if we move again.
12. Have an overnight in London with just my husband and see a West End show together.
13. Go back to Liberty in London with enough money to actually buy something.
14. Start up a book club.
15. Understand the British school system and exam structure for teenagers.
16. Send my children to University either here or elsewhere in the world.
17. Write and publish my third book.
18. Take our children to Prague and show them where their parents first met and fell in love. Show them one of the most magical cities in the world.
19. Be able to visit America more often so that my half American children can experience it firsthand more often.
20. Take my children to the London museums more often. We do take them each time we go to the US embassy but I’d like to go for days out rather than as an add-on to our embassy trips.

A little while ago, Amanda also did a reverse expat bucket list – a celebration of our achievements as an expat. See it here.

Great list – one of real exploration!! Cornwall – yes you really should visit – and on your way down pop into Stonehenge. We drive past every time we go to Cornwall – even as a drive through it is nice to see and from the comfort of your own car without the crowds
When you make it to Amsterdam give me a shout – it would be lovely to meet you!
The school system – that is one I should add to my list too: understand the Dutch school system. Secondary education is filled with abbreviations and initials and every time I think I have it understood I realise I actually don’t….pffff
I love the idea of the lunch project and it’s so great you are involved – I agree it would be amazing to see it all first hand in Tanzania.
Keep us posted as you tick things off this list…..
Thank you Amanda! yes, I would love to meet you in person next time I’m in Amsterdam
By the way, have you ever been to Olivity on Overtoom? Caterina is one of the friends I have there – her shop is lovely.
I haven’t – have to say I don’t go to Amsterdam all that often….
Oh I see, for some reason I thought that you live in Amsterdam. If you do ever go there, I recommend it!
Great list Meghan – I see we have a few fairly similar ideas. I’m still trying to understand the British school system and I’ve got a teenager and a tweenager 😉
It doesn’t help that they are changing everything as well soon!
