Off on our Jollys

Now that is an expression I have never used before now but it seems to fit and makes me feel like a resident Brit mum! That’s it, we are away away away for 7 days visiting Nick’s parents in Spain. As you read this, Iwill have just had my passport stamped for the 7th time (or is it 8 now?) by Spanish passport control. I’m sure we will have 3 very tired and starving kids eager to finish the journey, throw on their cossies (another term I’ve never used before now!) and head down to the beach. No doubt Nick and I will just want to lie in a quite and dark room to recover for a while but that is not going to happen.

I love being so close to European mainland. It makes travelling to different countries so much more accessible for us. I highlight in my book Bringing Up Brits that this is one of the benefits of bringing up children in Britain. When I was a child, the thought of vacationing in Spain was far too luxurious and way too expensive. We just didn’t do that nor did the average American family. I didn’t travel to any European country until I was 18 years old. And my kids have now all experienced travelling to different countries and being in different cultures since they were each under 1 year old. Truly amazing.
